This work is a silkscreen print from 2003. On a background of red, white and blue, reminiscent of the Union Jack, is a rendering of a monkey wearing a crown and diamond jewelry. Created from stencils and spray paint in a photorealistic manner, the figure bears a striking resemblance to Queen Elizabeth II of England, the artist’s native country. Simultaneously subverting the symbolic image of a national figure and alluding to the remnants of imperialism; the work is a typical example of the artist’s ability to make bold statements and unhesitating political satire.
