DESCRIPTION

Trompe-l'œil Print Series, Collection piece

Maison Martin Margiela's Spring-Summer 1999 collection is widely regarded as a landmark season and the culmination of the Maison's early creative vision, revisiting and reinterpreting many of its most iconic designs. This collection piece reimagines the Trompe-l'œil series first introduced in 1996, featuring a photographic print of the Maison's iconic Stockman Jacket. It was presented on the runway as part of the collection.
Derived from the French term meaning "to deceive the eye," trompe-l'œil employs photographic prints of garments to create the illusion of wearing an entirely different piece. By blurring the boundary between reality and illusion, the series embraces a distinctly Surrealist approach, exploring perception and challenging conventional notions of dress.
