Maison Martin Margiela's Spring-Summer 1999 collection is widely regarded as a landmark season and the culmination of the Maison's early creative vision, revisiting and reinterpreting many of its most iconic designs. The Doll (Barbie) Series, originally introduced in the Autumn-Winter 1994 collection, is based on the concept of enlarging Barbie doll clothing to human scale. Faithfully preserving the proportions of the miniature original, the garments are distinguished by oversized details, most notably their enlarged buttons and zipper.
