Presented as part of Maison Martin Margiela's Autumn-Winter 1998 Artisanal Series, this one-of-a-kind piece exemplifies the Maison's practice of transforming vintage garments and found materials through handcraft and reconstruction. Each Artisanal work is individually made, resulting in a unique object.
This piece reimagines a military shirt, introducing a distinctive sculptural treatment at the neckline. Its flattened, reconfigured construction also reflects the influence of the Flat Garment Series introduced in the previous Spring-Summer 1998 collection, further exploring Margiela's investigation into the relationship between two-dimensional form and the dressed body.
