IMAI Urara (1982-) was born in Kanagawa Prefecture and graduated from Tama Art University in 2004 with a degree in oil painting. Influenced by her father, she developed a deep interest in art from an early age. Despite being born with a hearing impairment, she employs classical oil painting techniques to accurately capture and swiftly depict motifs. Her keen eye allows her to carefully observe everyday objects and portray their essence. She has exhibited her work at prominent venues in Japan, such as the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery and PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO, as well as notable overseas galleries, including Nonaka-Hill in Los Angeles and Karma in New York. Recognised as a next-generation artist, she is garnering attention both domestically and internationally.
One of her signature works, “Cooking in 3min,” humorously and artistically captures the daily life of busy modern individuals. Based on the innovative concept of illustrating the cooking process in just three minutes, this piece features dynamic compositions and vibrant visuals. It reflects her unique perspective of transforming ordinary moments into something extraordinary.
