A contemporary artist based in the United States, Julia Chiang explores delicate and poetic expressions through painting, sculpture, and installation. Known for her works using unique materials such as ceramics and melted candy, she delves into themes of materiality and the passage of time, prompting viewers to reflect on change, transience, and memory. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across New York, Los Angeles, and other parts of the world, including the Nicola Vassell Gallery in New York, The Modern Institute in Glasgow, and NANZUKA in Tokyo.
This work conveys the contrasting themes of fragility and permanence. The title of the piece, Spit Sweat Shhh, evokes everyday physical actions and sensations, suggesting the complex interplay between human physicality and emotions. The choice and arrangement of words are both poetic and enigmatic, while the simple shapes and colour schemes balance tension with warmth, focusing on the transitions of time, memory, and emotion.
