DESCRIPTION

Artisanal Series, Collection piece

The Spring-Summer 2000 collection marked a significant turning point for Maison Martin Margiela. Defined by radically oversized proportions, it stood in deliberate contrast to the slim silhouettes that dominated contemporary fashion. More than a formal experiment, the exaggerated scale challenged conventional ideas of fit, proportion, and the relationship between garment and body, laying the foundation for the House's influential exploration of oversized silhouettes in the seasons that followed.

Presented in the Spring-Summer 2000 collection, this Artisanal slip dress was meticulously reconstructed by hand from multiple vintage negligees and a bandeau top. Characterized by its fluid drape and soft, sculptural volume, this unique piece reflects the artisanal process at the heart of the collection. By transforming intimate garments and delicate lace into a new sartorial context, Margiela redefined the meaning and value of existing clothing, embodying the Artisanal line's philosophy of reinvention through reconstruction.
