Doll (Barbie), Replica Series

Maison Martin Margiela's Spring-Summer 1999 collection is widely regarded as a landmark season and the culmination of the Maison's early creative vision, revisiting and reinterpreting many of its most iconic designs. This piece belongs to the Replica Series, which reimagines the original Doll (Barbie) Series introduced in the Autumn-Winter 1994 collection.
Based on the concept of enlarging Barbie doll clothing to human scale, the garment faithfully reproduces the proportions and details of the miniature original. Characteristic oversized buttons and an enlarged zipper preserve the scale of the doll garment, becoming defining features of one of Margiela's most celebrated conceptual series.
