DESCRIPTION

Responding to Rudyard Kipling’s famous line, “East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,” Nam June Paik presented Bye Bye Kipling, a real-time, interactive satellite broadcast project linking New York, Tokyo, and Seoul.

In contrast to Kipling’s assertion that East and West could never converge, Paik symbolically bid farewell to the notion of irreconcilable Eastern and Western values and instead explored the possibilities of global communication on a planetary scale.
