A ruler and a suspended fork. Both are everyday objects and motifs frequently employed in Jones's work. The cord-like element from which the fork hangs also serves to bisect the picture plane, with the density of the composition differing between the right and left halves. One would like to verify whether "the fork is 7 inches long," as stated in the text of No. 28, but the reversed numbers on the ruler become illegible somewhere around the "4."
