DESCRIPTION

Kurita Koichi (1962-), a Japanese artist, creates his works by collecting soil from the places he visits and exhibiting them. Since 1990, he has focused on the diversity of soil colours across the Japanese archipelago and has begun a project called "Soil Collection," in which he gathers soil from various places in Japan and the world. Through installations and exhibitions using the collected soil, Kurita explores the diverse colours and textures of soil, expressing the relationship between nature and humans. He has held exhibitions mainly in France, and his work has been permanently exhibited at the Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art since 2012.
