Based in Indonesia, Roby Dwi Antono is known for his unique style, which carries forward the legacy of Surrealism and Pop Art. With fragments of childhood memories such as pop culture, anime, and video games, and through symbols like children and animals, he explores themes of purity, innocence, growth, and loss. The soft pastel tones and delicate brushstrokes used in his motifs create a nostalgic yet uniquely unsettling atmosphere. In 2022, he held a large solo exhibition at NANZUKA UNDERGROUND.
This work embodies his surrealistic style, with emotional and symbolic expressions standing out. The innocence and fragility of the childlike figure depicted are symbolic while its facial expression reflects deep sadness and inner turmoil. The title name, "Lirih," is an Indonesian word meaning "whisper," and the entire piece is imbued with a quiet yet intense emotional resonance. The delicate colouring and the realistic yet fantastical portrayal blur the line between reality and fantasy, providing viewers with a profound emotional experience within the artist's unique worldview.
