This work is part of Matsuyama’s ongoing “Running” series that was started in 2008. The series seeks to deconstruct and disrupt the original context of equestrian statues, which have historically been a symbol of power. By transforming the genre through the use of vivid, bright colors and decorative expressions, they provide a new perspective and interpretation to the viewer. The work, which was created in 2011 by PaperMonster, a printer that produces editioned prints by New York artists; is a silkscreen, giclee print, hand-finished with spray-paint by Matsuyama.
