Moving towards printmaking in the later years of his career, this work by Alberto Giacometti (1901 - 1966) is an extremely rare example of his lithographic work. Giacometti's prints would seldom depict the elongated figures that would dominate his sculptural works in the 1940’s, and his drawings from the 1950’s were usually representations of interior spaces with figures or city scenes, such as those that were featured in Paris Sans Fin, a publication of drawings that were printed after his death in 1952. In addition, Giacometti would depict women statically, standing upright, and men in motion, in a walking stance; there are very few examples of a man standing still in his print works.
